The Vicuña of Loro Piana comes from the highlands of Peru and Argentina, in these places lies the finest and rarest fiber in the world: the Vicuña, obtained from a small camelid, a sacred animal already revered by the Incas. Today Loro Piana is the largest transformer in the world of vicuña, the finest fiber that can be legally obtained from an adult animal, with an average diameter of only 12.5-13 microns. Shearing takes place every 2 years and the adult animal produces about 250 grams of hair which, after the removal of the coarser fibers, is reduced to only 120-150 grams. Unrivaled for its softness and lightness, this precious material gives the fabrics a unique touch.

Merino wool comes from Australia and New Zealand where merino sheep have found their ideal habitat. From their fleece derives the best wool, the finest, softest and most shiny. Superfine wools are however a rare and precious material. Of the 75 million sheep currently living in Australia, only 18 million produce fiber under 19 microns. Each year Loro Piana proudly buys Record Bale, the two finest bales produced in Australia and New Zealand in the year, rewarding the finer of the two and thus creating a stimulating competition between the farms involved.

Loro Piana Cashmere comes from Mongolia, where the finest and most noble lots of this precious fiber come from. Loro Piana, in fact, thanks to its direct presence on the markets, has managed to build a privileged and personal relationship with the shepherds who raise the Hircus goats, from which cashmere derives. Once a year, the fleece is taken from the goats, using a delicate combing process, which is totally harmless to the animals. From each goat 250 grams of raw material are obtained per year, which, after the elimination of the coarser external fibers, are reduced to more than 100 grams. Because only the most precious cashmere can be transformed into Loro Piana yarns and fabrics.
