Moooi Golden Chair: From School Chair to Fairy-Tale Throne
The Golden Chair was created in 2013 from the vision of Slovenian designer Nika Zupanc, who transformed the familiar form of a school chair into a manifesto of “punk elegance.” Its chrome steel structure is plated with real gold through a galvanization process, giving the surface an authentic brilliance and a warm tone resistant to oxidation.
In 2018, the collection was expanded with the Black Matt version, which preserves the project’s iconic silhouette while introducing a matte black painted structure, conceived for interiors where elegance is expressed with greater discretion and contemporary refinement.
Placed around a table such as the Container Table, the Golden Chairs find one of their most iconic pairings: the contrast between the luminous gold finish and the material presence of tabletops in natural oak, wengé, or black marble creates a setting of strong visual impact—sophisticated and theatrical. In more neutral environments, the Black Matt version combined with light fabrics offers a more refined and understated balance.
