Boffi: Kitchens, Bathrooms, and Systems Since 1934

Boffi was founded in 1934, when Piero Boffi left Caproni to open a carpenter's workshop in Brianza. In 1947, he opened the first factory in Cesano Maderno, joined by his sons Dino, Pier Ugo, and Paolo. In the 1960s, Boffi was the first to realize that the kitchen was not merely a piece of furniture, but a true architectural project, and began collaborating with the great masters of Italian design. From this intersection of industrial process, research, and development came true milestones in the field: in 1963, Joe Colombo designed the revolutionary Minikitchen, a compact monobloc on wheels now exhibited at MoMA in New York, while in 1972, Luigi Massoni designed Xila, the first handleless kitchen featuring a recessed grip, still in production today. Since 1986, under the art direction of Piero Lissoni, the company extended this design methodology from the kitchen to the bathroom environment, through to wardrobes and integrated systems for the entire home. Working alongside Lissoni have been Zaha Hadid Design, Patricia Urquiola, Naoto Fukasawa, Claudio Silvestrin, Elisa Ossino, and Marcel Wanders. The factory is located in Lentate sul Seveso. Since 2015, Boffi has controlled De Padova, and ADL since 2019, with all three companies operating today under the name Boffi|DePadova.
