In May 1996, on the occasion of the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York, Bernett presented his first collection, which was awarded by the organizers as the best of the entire show. Bernett continues to work in numerous fields (home and office furniture, home products, lighting, transport industry design, graphic design, packaging and beverage design, environmental and interior architecture, strategic planning, etc.) , winning numerous design awards. In the emerging global design market, Bernett is in many cases the first American to be chosen by several of his European customers. Among the many brands for which he works stand out B&B Italia, (From this collaboration the Metropolitan '14 armchair will be born), Boeing, Boffi, Cappellini, Conde Nast, DWR (Design Within Reach), Herman Miller, Knoll, Kvadrat, L'Oreal, Mercedes-Benz, Northwest Airlines and Teknion. Publishing houses all over the world vie for his works for their design publications; Bernett also holds various patents and is often invited to lecture at design schools and at events.
