The Husk Family: Indoor and Outdoor
The Husk collection consists of two lines: one for indoors that includes, alongside the armchair on this page, a beds, chairs, and sofa. For outdoor spaces, B&B Italia Outdoor presents Husk as an armchair, chair, and coffee tables. The Outdoor armchair features the same Hirek® shell as this version, paired with a powder-coated aluminum profile base, water-repellent polyester fiber padding, and weather-resistant outdoor fabrics. The Outdoor chair features a high-density polyurethane resin shell, while the side table is crafted in painted metal. The armchair on this page is designed specifically for indoor use in residential settings and contract environments like lounges and waiting areas.
Patricia Urquiola
Patricia Urquiola studied architecture and design in Madrid and graduated from the Politecnico di Milano under Achille Castiglioni. She founded her own studio in 2001 and works across product design, architecture, art direction, and strategic consulting. Her work is exhibited internationally at institutions such as MoMA in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Routine Maintenance
- Hirek® Shell: Water and neutral soap; avoid abrasive products, solvents, or alcohol
- Upholstery: For washing, follow the care symbols on the upholstery sheet attached to the product; for routine cleaning, dust with a dry, soft cotton cloth
- Spilled liquids: Blot immediately with absorbent paper; if needed, wipe gently with a white micro-fiber cloth lightly dampened with water and neutral detergent, then allow to air dry in a ventilated room
- Stains: Blot immediately with a clean white cloth using circular motions from the outer edge inward, without applying excessive pressure
- Velcro adjustments: Periodically smooth out the fabric over velcro fixings to diminish creases caused by regular use
- Cushions: Fluff regularly on all sides to aerate the filling and restore original volume
- Leather: Official B&B Italia maintenance and cleaning kit (code SETPN) available through authorized dealers
- Painted wood: Dry cloth for dusting; for dry dirt, use a well-wrung cloth dampened with warm water; avoid abrasives, solvents, ammonia, and alcohol
- Aluminum and steel: Clean using delicate surface products or warm water with neutral soap; do not use abrasives, solvents, or alcohol
- Repairability: B&B Italia supports maintenance, repair, and component replacement through its Customer Service and authorized dealer network whenever technically feasible
Special Upholstery Care & Removal
- Prerequisites: Removing the upholstery requires extracting internal padding; this procedure should be performed by specialized personnel
- Cover removal: Unfasten the cover from the shell by opening snap press-studs, then lay it flat with studs facing upward on a protective surface to prevent scratching
- Internal cushions: Open the zippers located on the seat, backrest, armrest, and headrest zones (where present) and extract internal cushions
- Washing: Carefully follow washing instructions provided in the technical upholstery sheet
- Reassembly preparation: Allow internal padding to air thoroughly, ideally outdoors, for approximately 30 minutes before refitting
- Reassembly: Reverse the removal process; internal cushions feature a trapezoidal shape designed to fit their respective designated pockets

Is the upholstery removable? How should it be cleaned?
The upholstery on Husk is removable with specialized assistance, as unfastening press studs and extracting internal cushions requires technical care. Routine maintenance involves dusting with a soft dry cotton cloth and wiping spills immediately. For washing, follow the care symbols included with the product fabric card. For leather care, B&B Italia offers an official cleaning set (code SETPN).
