Diesis: The Separation Between Structure and Upholstery
Diesis was designed in 1979, aligning with the orientation of Modern Movement Masters between 1925 and 1929 by separating the structure from the upholstered parts. The frame is die-cast, featuring a perforated steel bar inserted inside to increase the elastic strength of the leg, while the under-seat is built by coupling two metal sheets. The comb-like harmonic steel backrest upholstered in saddle-hide and the micro-perforated leather used for ventilation form a recognizable decorative motif—details that define the project's personality.
Antonio Citterio and Paolo Nava
Antonio Citterio, born in Meda in 1950, graduated in Architecture from the Polytechnic of Milan and opened his own studio in 1972. From that same year, he worked with Paolo Nava, born in Seregno in 1943, who graduated in Architecture from the Polytechnic of Milan and completed the Higher Course in Industrial Design in Florence. The Citterio-Nava partnership, active until 1981, designed projects for B&B Italia such as the Modulo 30 seating system (1973) and Diesis itself (1979). Citterio subsequently received two Compasso d'Oro awards: in 1987 for the Sity seating system (B&B Italia) and in 1994 for the Mobil storage unit (Kartell). Paolo Nava has continued his independent practice since 1982, collaborating with brands like Flexform, Arflex, Poliform, and De Sede.

B&B Italia Diesis Sofa FAQ
Configurations, materials, and maintenance: direct answers.
How many configurations does Diesis have?
Five: two linear sofas (217 and 277 cm, with 1, 2, or 3 seat cushions), a dormeuse, a chaise longue, and a bench. Every configuration shares the same height of 80 cm and seat height of 44 cm, with the exception of the bench.
Are the structure and cushions made of the same material?
No, by construction: the structure (comb backrest and armrests) is always upholstered in leather (Gamma or Kasia). The seat, backrest, and armrest cushions can instead be chosen in fabric or leather, independently from the structure.
Is the upholstery removable?
The cushions have fully removable covers. The structure, upholstered in leather over shaped polyurethane, has non-removable covers.
Do you ship outside your local area?
Yes, we manage shipments throughout Italy and internationally using specialized courier services experienced in fine furniture. Costs vary based on the destination and delivery floor. Contact us with your address for a complete transport quote.
