In 1972 Mario Bellini presented the Le Bambole collection for B&B Italia with a radical idea: eliminate the structure, or hide it so well that the armchair becomes pure form, pure comfort, pure softness. While designs of the time showed frames, legs and joints, Bambola dissolved them into polyurethane and wrapped them in soft, fluid lines. The result is a seat that communicates welcome even before it is touched.
The Compasso d’Oro 1979 confirmed what the market had already recognized: Bambola was not a trend-driven product, but a project with its own internal logic, capable of remaining relevant over time. Fifty years later that logic is still intact. The Bambola armchair works in contemporary living rooms exactly as it did in 1970s homes, with the same natural ease, the same presence, the same promise of uncompromising comfort.
2007 and 2022: Two Evolutions, the Same Form
B&B Italia reissued Le Bambole in 2007, refining proportions and elegance without touching the formal DNA of the project. In 2022, for the collection’s fiftieth anniversary, the intervention was deeper and smarter. The question was not “how to change the shape” but “how to improve what is inside.” The answer was to replace the original metal structure with a second-life polyethylene shell, 98% recycled, produced through rotational molding and hollow inside: 70% less material than the previous version, without any compromise on comfort or longevity.
Bambola 2022 was redesigned to be disassemblable and recyclable, not greenwashing: sitting in Bambola feels like entering an embrace.
The Sila Bouclé Upholstery Configuration
The model upholstered in Sila Bouclé fabric, a textured material with a contemporary character. Bouclé enhances the soft, enveloping lines of Bambola, creating an immediate dialogue with linen interiors, plaster walls, travertine, or light wood. The cover is fully removable.
