Camaleonda Sofa: Modular, Iconic

The Camaleonda modular sofa by B&B Italia, designed by Mario Bellini in 1970 and re-edited in 2020, is one of the very rare design projects that doesn't belong to an era, but represents a chapter in furniture history where design and living culture converge. It wasn't born just to solve today's space, but to accompany a vision of residential freedom without formal rigidity, following its owner through new homes, new needs, new aesthetic balances.
Camaleonda anticipates by half a century that contemporary tension toward personalization, but does so without yielding to whim: its modular grammar is rigor that generates freedom, a system that allows invention.
Winner of the Compasso d'Oro 1979, the re-edition preserves the elements that made it an icon: 90×90 cm seating module, backrest and armrest in original proportions, capitonné obtained with a system of cables, hooks, and rings designed by Bellini. The internal structure has been completely redesigned with sandwich technology that maintains the original comfort; it's disassemblable and composed of recycled or recyclable materials, thus adding sustainability to the project.

Modularity: move, recombine, restart

The point isn't "how many pieces you buy," but how much freedom you allow yourself: The Camaleonda sofa is born to be disassembled and reassembled over time, following house changes, renovations, new habits, or simply a different way of living the space. Modules can be moved and recombined at will, always maintaining its unique identity.

Available Modules: from Single Seat to Architectural Composition

Camaleonda offers a complete range of modular components: Central element, terminal, corner, ottoman. Feet are available in solid natural beech wood in two sizes H 5 cm or H 8 cm (Those indicated are with 5 cm feet). Rings are in chrome-plated brass, the carabiner in stainless steel.

Seating Modules - Ottoman

• Module 66×96 cm: compact seat for narrow compositions with high or low backrest. Ottoman, additional element usable as seat, footrest, support table with tray, connecting elements between separate sofas.
• Module 96×96 cm: standard seat (the original iconic 1970 module), base for all configurations on which to add armrest and backrest or configurable as ottoman.

Modules with Integrated Backrest/Armrest

• Central Module with high backrest (H 67 cm): for linear sofas, corner compositions, central islands.
• Central Module with low backrest (H 55 cm): visually lighter version for open living rooms.
• Terminal Module with armrest: closes the ends of the sofa, available with long or short backrest.
• Corner Module with combined armrest and backrest: for corner or peninsula configurations, available with low or high backrest.

Camaleonda Upholstery: Glamour, Contemporaneity and Freedom

Camaleonda can be upholstered drawing from the entire B&B Italia fabric and leather collection, offering an extremely wide level of material customization. To recall the project's original identity, B&B Italia has reintroduced the Enia fabric, developed in 1970 and today re-proposed in a selection of shades that reinterpret the spirit of the era in a contemporary key, from luminous neutrals to natural greens to the variants present in the sample book.
Alongside Enia fabrics, numerous high-performance technical fabrics are available, designed to ensure wear resistance, color stability, and ease of maintenance, as well as leathers from the B&B Italia collection, selected for aesthetic quality, tactility, and durability over time.
One of the most distinctive aspects of Camaleonda is the complete removability of the upholstery: over time the sofa can be renewed by replacing the cover, keeping the original structure intact.
