B&B Italia Flat.C Frame: from 2008 to 2026, a System that Evolves

Flat.C was born in 2008 with a precise idea: reduce thickness to a minimum, eliminate visible joints, ensure the system does not impose itself on the space but interprets it. With only 25 cm of depth, ultra-thin shelves and sides, Flat.C became the benchmark for the contemporary wall unit — capable of housing books, a television, and hi-fi equipment in a minimal footprint. Flat.C Frame 2025: the Frame as a Design Element

In 2025 Antonio Citterio introduced Flat.C Frame: a load-bearing structure in extruded aluminium that can extend from floor to ceiling, be fixed ceiling-to-wall, or positioned at the centre of the room as a dividing element. A paradigm shift — no longer a piece of furniture to lean against a wall, but a form of domestic architecture. Horizontal shelves and storage units are height-adjustable via vertical rails and anchor points, making every composition reconfigurable over time as needs change. The load-bearing frame is available in satin anthracite, polished chrome, and Eneo bronze lacquer. The integrated LED system is dimmable and remote-controlled: you can vary the intensity and move from a warm, enveloping evening light to a cool, crisp daytime light without touching the wiring.

Flat.C Frame 2026: the Free-Standing Variant

In 2026 the system gained a free-standing version — sideboards and storage units with a geometric aesthetic designed for living rooms and dining areas. Light is part of the design: some models can be fitted with dimmable, chromatically adjustable LED lighting controlled by remote. The support frame — available in lacquered steel, bronze nickel, black chrome, or polished chrome — runs along the entire perimeter with a continuous design. Satin, lacquer, oak, and etimoé (a mahogany-like timber with warm tones) finishes complete a range that covers every aesthetic register.

Flat.C Frame is conceived for the living room as a fitted wall unit for books, television, hi-fi, and objects — but its autonomous structure opens up different scenarios: positioned at the centre of the room it visually divides the living area from the dining zone without building walls, creating two distinct environments with a light, permeable presence. Against the wall it becomes the backbone of the daytime zone, with closed storage for what you want to conceal and open shelving for what you want to display. In open-plan living spaces with a kitchen, it works as a scenic separation element that brings order without closing off the space. The integrated LED lighting does the rest: in the evening the composition ceases to be a piece of furniture and becomes a luminous backdrop.
