Invisible Technology: The Electrosandwich Patent
The structure of Flock of Light has no wires; the thin bronze filaments that make up the lamp's framework act as electrical conductors themselves, made possible by Moooi's patented Electrosandwich technology. As a result, the brass cups with their semi-transparent diffusers appear to leave glowing trails suspended in space without any visible electrical wiring.
Studio Toer: From Music to Installation to Design Object
Studio Toer was founded in 2011 in the Netherlands by Castor Bours and Wouter Widdershoven. Flock of Light originally started as an artistic installation before being developed by Moooi into a home lighting lamp. Flock of Light is available in three sizes: 11, 21, and 31.

Ceiling Height: Which Model Matches
- Ceilings 2.40–2.70 m: Model 11 or 21
- Ceilings 2.70–3.20 m: Model 21 or 31

The adjustable transparent cable is 250 cm long on all models to customize the installation height.
Dimming: How It Works for Each Model
- Models 11 and 21: trailing edge / reverse phase dimmer, compatible with standard LED-certified wall dimmers
- Model 31: traditional wall dimmers (mains/ELV) are not compatible. Requires either a Wireless Wall Switch, DALI dt6 protocol, or a push/pulse switch

Models, height, dimmers, maintenance: everything before deciding.
Which version should I choose for my dining room?
It depends on the dimensions of the table and the room. Mod. 11 for tables up to 4 seats and rooms of 8–12 m². Mod. 21 (on offer at -33%) for tables of 4–8 seats and rooms of 15–25 m². Mod. 31 for tables with over 10 seats and spaces exceeding 30 m². Contact us with your measurements, and we will confirm the right model.
At what height should it be installed?
Above a dining table: 70–85 cm from the surface. In living areas without a table: 2–2.5 meters from the floor. The adjustable 250 cm transparent cable makes it easy to adapt the height even for ceilings over 3 meters.
Can the LEDs be replaced?
The integrated LEDs have an estimated lifespan of 50,000 hours, equivalent to over 25 years with an average use of about 5 hours a day, making replacement very rare in domestic use.
Is it dimmable? How does it work?
Yes, models 11 and 21 are compatible with traditional trailing edge/reverse phase wall dimmers certified for LED loads. Model 31 is not compatible with standard wall dimmers: it requires a Wireless Wall Switch, DALI dt6, or a dedicated pulse switch. Contact us to verify compatibility with your electrical system.
Is the 2500K color temperature too warm?
2500K is a very warm light, similar to candlelight, designed for dining areas, living rooms, and social spaces where an intimate atmosphere is desired. It is not intended as functional task lighting.
How do I clean it?
Gently dust with a soft, dry cloth every 2–3 months, without using chemical or abrasive products. The natural patina that develops on the bronze over time is part of the lamp's character.
