Porro Origata: The Kimono Philosophy Meets Design
"The name Origata in Japanese means, ori = fold and gata = form. This inspiration comes from the method of kimono makers, to build a product by eliminating waste. So I thought of applying the same philosophy to furniture production." With these words, designer Nao Tamura reveals the soul of Origata. The idea is as simple as it is brilliant: just as a tailor cuts a roll of fabric in straight lines to create a kimono without scraps, Porro models a sheet of aluminum to give life to a bench or a consolle.
The Symbiosis between Designer and Company
This project represents a perfect symbiosis of intentions. On one hand, the poetic and sustainable vision of Nao Tamura; on the other, the extremely high technological know-how of Porro, capable of accepting the challenge and translating a sheet of metal into a three-dimensional design object, stable and perfect in its glossy lacquered finishes. A collaboration that unites two cultures and two excellences.
Details of Refined Simplicity
The essential nature of the project is also found in the details. The joint that assembles the structure is a visible technical element that becomes an integral part of the aesthetic. On the bench, the optional cushion is removable thanks to a system as simple as it is elegant: a fabric loop is fixed to the structure by a metal rod, a small detail that reflects the philosophy of a clean, functional, and thoughtfully designed piece.
