The Hokkaido Factory: Where Wood Still Speaks by Hand
In 2008, Time & Style built its own factory in Higashikawa, on the slopes of the Asahikawa forest on the northern island of Hokkaido. Here, approximately thirty specialist craftspeople oversee the entire production cycle — from selecting logs of local timber to cutting, seasoning, shaping, sanding, and finishing. The use of machinery is kept to a minimum; every piece is made predominantly by hand, with the slowness and care that only manual work can guarantee. Choosing logs from the local forest reduces transport-related emissions and supports the local economy — sustainability is a production method here.
Time & Style is governed by the Monozukuri philosophy, which fuses technical skill, spiritual dedication, and the pursuit of perfection. Work is carried out with artisan workshops located in some of Japan's most iconic manufacturing regions: Yamagata, Hida Takayama, Hiroshima, Shimane, Gifu, Kobe — each place with a different specialisation, each product with a precise origin. It is not simply a matter of creating an object, but of infusing it with the spirit of the craftsman (shokunin). Every piece must be impeccable, functional, and long-lasting.

Kumiko, Lanterns and Wood: a Millenary Grammar
Time & Style produces through ancient inherited techniques. Kumiko is one of the most complex craft traditions in the history of Japanese woodworking — an ancient inlay technique born during the Kamakura period (over 800 years ago) that consists of cutting extremely thin strips of wood and interlocking them without nails or glue to create interwoven geometries of extraordinary complexity. This technique is used primarily for the creation of room dividers (Kumiko Partition).
The lamps, inspired by traditional Japanese lanterns, are produced with washi paper and soft cedar wood, worked with joinery techniques that demand great precision. Cedar is one of the most difficult woods to work with in carpentry — by choosing it deliberately, Time & Style chooses difficulty as a measure of quality. The products may appear neutral — neither wholly Japanese nor Western — yet in every small detail, in every proportion, in the dignified air that surrounds them, an authentic taste of Japan is unmistakable.
Time & Style ēdition for Boffi|DePadova: East and West in Dialogue
In February 2019, during the Stockholm furniture fair, Boffi|DePadova CEO Roberto Gavazzi visited the Time & Style stand and had an intuition: what would happen if the depth of Japanese craftsmanship were to meet the taste and distribution of Italian Boffi? After a year and a half of shared work, in 2020 the Time & Style ēdition collection came to life, distributed through the Boffi|DePadova mono-brand showrooms in 70 cities worldwide, including Milan. The collection includes lamps, tables, armchairs, chairs, stools, storage pieces, and accessories — every piece a synthesis between the Italian design sensibility for detail and the timeless craftsmanship of Japanese manufacture.
