Maddalena De Padova: The Woman Who Invented Italian Taste
Born in Barzio in 1928, Maddalena Corti in De Padova was among the very first Italian entrepreneurs to recognise the value of Scandinavian and American design, importing it into a country still rooted in traditional craftsmanship. Her greatest achievement was not simply choosing the right designers, but educating an entire generation of Italians in the appreciation of beauty — through the showroom on Corso Venezia in Milan, which became a place of pilgrimage for architects, creatives, and design enthusiasts from around the world.
In 2004, the ADI awarded her the Compasso d'Oro for Lifetime Achievement — the highest honour in Italian industrial design, conferred in recognition of a life dedicated to research, quality, and the promotion of contemporary design. Maddalena De Padova passed away in 2016, leaving as her legacy not only a company, but a way of thinking about the home that still guides every choice the brand makes today.

The Great Designers Who Wrote De Padova's History
De Padova built its identity through collaborations with the great masters of design — as the natural consequence of a vision and a refined taste — embracing a single philosophy: form that serves, beauty that endures.
- Vico Magistretti: the longest and most fruitful partnership — the Uragano chair, the Louisiana armchair, and the Flou sofa — among the pieces that defined the brand's visual vocabulary for decades
- Achille Castiglioni: the absolute genius of Italian design, bringing to De Padova that same design wit that made him a global icon
- Patricia Urquiola: worked in the De Padova product development office from 1990 to 1996, collaborating directly with Magistretti
- Piero Lissoni: brings architectural rigour and a quiet geometry that amplifies the brand's essentialist philosophy
- Ingo Maurer: the German poet of light introduces a poetic, almost surreal dimension to De Padova, exemplified by the versatile Tattomi armchair
- Renzo Piano, Paul Smith: two visions of the contemporary — from architecture to fashion — confirming the brand's cultural reach across disciplines
De Padova Today: The Boffi | DePadova Group
In 2015, De Padova joined the Boffi group, giving rise to an ambitious industrial and cultural project. In 2019, ADL — the design door brand founded by Massimo Luca — joined the group, completing a vision of living that encompasses kitchens, bathrooms, furnishings, and spatial architecture. The group recently announced the complete merger of all three brands into a single corporate entity, named Boffi | DePadova: each brand retains its own creative identity, while converging on a shared strategy aimed at becoming the absolute reference point for Italian luxury design on an international scale.
