Marcel Wanders: the "Design Magician" who Reinvented Living

Before Moooi came the Droog Design collective: in the 1990s, that hotbed of radical Dutch talents redefined contemporary design. But Wanders wanted more — a brand that would be a platform for the exceptional, where every piece tells a story, evokes emotions, delivers unexpected beauty. Together with Casper Vissers, who brought the entrepreneurial vision, he founded Moooi. His philosophy — declared and never betrayed — is "A Life Extraordinary". Design that never settles for the ordinary. Never.
Wanders is the brand's most recognisable creative face, but Moooi is structurally a platform of talents: it collaborates with a constellation of international designers, from Bertjan Pot to Nika Zupanc, from Andrés Reisinger to Sjoerd Vroonland, from Joost van Bleiswijk to Cristián Mohaded — each bringing a radically different vision, held together by the brand's one and only rule: be extraordinary, or don't be at all.

Moooi Lighting: Lamps that Become the Centrepiece

Moooi lamps are among the most photographed, cited, and imitated design objects of the past twenty years — internationally recognisable icons that have redefined what a lighting object can be. Not accessories, not accents: luminous sculptures that build the atmosphere of a room before even lighting it. Among the most iconic available in our shop:

• Random Light (Bertjan Pot, 2001): the lamp that introduced Moooi to the world. A sphere of randomly distributed glass fibres forming an organic, luminous volume that feels as light as a cloud.
• Raimond (Raimond Puts): a perfect sphere composed of hundreds of micro-LEDs arranged in geometric sequences — a constellation in chandelier form. By night it illuminates; by day it is a sculpture.
• Heracleum (Bertjan Pot): a pendant lamp inspired by the umbellifer plant of the same name — branches that bifurcate, carrying small lights at their tips.

The Moooi furniture catalogue follows the same logic as its lighting: no concessions to the generic, no piece that could go unnoticed. Every seat, every table, every storage piece is designed to be a focal point of the room — the piece around which the space's visual narrative revolves:

• Hortensia Chair (Andrés Reisinger): an armchair entirely covered with thousands of fabric petals — a liveable flower that brings Reisinger's surrealist romanticism into the contemporary living room.

Rugs and Wallcoverings: Surfaces as Storytelling

Moooi has extended its vision to horizontal and vertical surfaces, with results that have redefined what a rug or wallcovering can be. Moooi wallcoverings — including the celebrated Animal Extinct collection, featuring extinct animal species reproduced at life scale against lush botanical backgrounds — transform a wall into a permanent installation.
