Cc-Tapis: Handcrafted Design Rugs For Interior Decoration

Website: CC-Tapis

"Born in France. Designed in Milan. Produced in Nepal." Three lines that encapsulate an entire philosophy. CC-Tapis was founded in 2001 in Strasbourg by the family of Nelcya Chamszadeh, whose father had managed one of France’s most esteemed Persian rug houses, Maison Chamszadeh (founded in 1943), for decades. Nelcya and her husband Fabrizio Cantoni—whose surnames' initials form the brand's double "C"—brought that artisanal heritage into the heart of contemporary culture. In 2011, they moved to Milan and, along with designer and art director Daniele Lora, founded the brand we know today. The result is a unique object in the world: a rug hand-knotted by Tibetan artisans in Nepal, using hand-spun Himalayan wool and silk, designed in Milan and inspired by the best of contemporary international design.

An Eighty-Year History: From Persia to Milan

The story of CC-Tapis doesn't begin in 2001, but in 1943, when the Chamszadeh family founded a maison in Strasbourg specializing in hand-knotted Persian rugs, becoming a benchmark in France for the quality and culture of Oriental rugs. When Nelcya Chamszadeh and Fabrizio Cantoni, who met while studying hotel management in Switzerland, decided to found their own brand, they brought that heritage with them and reinvented it: the same artisanal care, a new visual language. In Milan, they met Daniele Lora, who became the art director and third partner, giving the brand's creativity a precise and coherent design direction. "Thanks to Milan, we are who we are today," states Nelcya Chamszadeh.

The Art of the Tibetan Knot: 8 to 24 Weeks for a Single Rug

Every CC-Tapis rug is born in Kathmandu, in the hands of Tibetan artisans who have passed down the Tibetan knot technique for generations—one of the most complex and prized in the history of world weaving. Creating a CC-Tapis rug requires between 8 and 24 weeks of exclusive labor, depending on the size and complexity of the design. Materials are rigorously selected: hand-spun Himalayan wool, incredibly soft and durable, and natural silk for shimmering highlights that shift with the room's light.
CC-Tapis's commitment to sustainability is not a marketing statement: it is structural. The company exclusively uses natural materials, eco-compatible dyes, and purified rainwater for the final washing of the rugs, minimizing the production's water impact. It is a production cycle that respects people, materials, and the planet, from spinning to the finished product.

Signature Collaborations: World-Class Design in a Rug

The true strength of CC-Tapis lies in its ability to attract the most creative and versatile designers on the international scene, transforming the rug into an artistic medium without boundaries. These are not simple commissions: every collaboration is a cultural project where the designer brings their own language and CC-Tapis translates it into textile matter with unique mastery. This has led to collaborations with top international designers, including Patricia Urquiola with the Visioni collection, Cristina Celestino with the Envolée collection (botanical decorative motifs in chromatic alternation), Sabine Marcelis with the Stroke collection (plays of transparency and light translated into wool and silk), and Kwangho Lee with The Color of Copper collection (focusing on oxidation and matter)...
